Italy’s leading sports newspaper, the Gazzetta dello Sport, announced that Formula 1 was considering keeping the current rules and cars for another year to save costs. The Covid-19 pandemic has created financial uncertainty and an already changed calendar has led to talks of racing with the current cars in 2022. Seven of the ten teams are based in the UK which has caused more difficulty after the country toughened up their rules in January due to a new strain of coronavirus. Formula 1 has already delayed the new regulations which were originally scheduled to come into force this year. RacingNews365 can confirm that the new cars will be introduced in 2021 meaning there will be no further delays. A Formula 1 spokesperson said: “Any suggestion the 2022 regulations will be delayed is wrong and has not been discussed. “The new regulations are designed to improve competition on track and give fans closer racing. This combined with the new financial regulations will improve Formula 1 and create a healthier and stronger business model for the whole sport.”
