Former Ferrari F1 president Luca di Montezemolo has launched a scathing attack on the manufacturer following the unveiling of its first all-electric road car.
When Ferrari presented the 'Luce', [Italian for light], this week, Di Montezemolo led the torrent of fierce criticism that followed.
It was felt that the car exuded little 'Ferrari' and was essentially a mash of elements from many electric cars already dominating the market. Even the price tag has drawn scorn, at €550,000.
The public apathy led to a sharp drop in the company's share price on both the Italian and American stock exchanges.
As for Di Montezemolo, who led Ferrari both on the track and the road for 23 years, he did not mince his words, pouring scorn on the company and the car.
"If I were to say what I think about it, I would harm Ferrari," he said. "It is quite possible that a myth is being debunked here.
"I hope they at least remove the Ferrari badge. I am quite sure that this is a car that even the Chinese won't copy."
