FIA investigating dangerous end to Azerbaijan GP

The FIA has confirmed they are investigating the dangerous end to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, when Esteban Ocon nearly ran over several officials and photographers when pitting on the final lap.

The FIA has confirmed that it is investigating the pit lane incident on the final lap of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, when Esteban Ocon nearly ran over several officials and photographers pitting on the last lap. The Alpine driver nearly went the full Grand Prix distance on one set of Hard tyres after starting from the pit lane, but had to pit on the final lap to meet the rules of using two different dry compounds in a race. However as he entered the pits, preparations for the end-of-race celebrations was already taking place with the barrier about to be put up by officials and photographers standing in the fast lane. Ocon had to take avoiding action as they scurried out of the way, but it is likely to raise renewed concerns about the safety of post-race celebrations after mechanics were told they could not climb the debris fences. A spokesperson from the FIA confirmed to RacingNews365.com that it is being looked at, given the dangerous nature of the incident. "We're currently investigating the incident in the pit lane on the final lap. We will update further when able," said the spokesperson.
