A successful appeal to the FIA stewards has overturned a penalty for Sebastien Buemi, promoting the Envision Formula E driver onto the Jakarta E-Prix podium.
Andretti's Nico Müller has been demoted to fourth almost two weeks on from the race in the Indonesian capital, with Buemi jumping from eighth to third.
The Season 2 champion had received a five-second time penalty in the E-Prix almost a fortnight ago for being judged as at fault for causing a collision with Mahindra's Edoardo Mortara.
In Jakarta, the penalty was immediately argued by Envision and Buemi but to no success, before an official petition for review was lodged within the 96-hour window.
The initial review took place earlier this week, with The Race confirming that a separate appeal was heard on Friday afternoon with Envision, the FIA stewards and Jakarta E-Prix driver advisor, Alex Yoong.
According to the FIA stewards' new report following the review of Envision's petition, Buemi's penalty was overturned due to "significant and relevant" evidence initially unavailable.
The full stewards' report following the appeal read: "The Stewards received in writing a petition from Envision Racing for them to review, in accordance with Article 14 of the FIA International Sporting Code, the Decision 12, rendered by them at the FIA Formula E World Championship Round 12 - Jakarta E-Prix 19 - 21 June 2025.
"In their Decision 20.2, the Stewards considered that there was a significant and relevant new element which was unavailable to the party seeking the review at the time of the decision concerned (i.e. the Car 16 roll hoop onboard camera (view from above driver’s helmet) (the “New Element”)), and they decided to re-examine Decision 12 which was taken during the race.
"Accordingly, the Stewards held a hearing with the team representative of Envision Racing, the team representative of Mahindra Racing, the driver of Car 16 and the driver of Car 48. During that hearing, the Stewards reviewed the videos that they had at their disposal when they took theDecision 12 but also the New Element.
"The Stewards were also able to listen to the drivers involved who gave their opinion on the New Element. The driver of Car 16 argued that the New Element shows that his overtaking manoeuvre was legit, that he was always in control of his car and that when the slight contact between the two cars occurred, he was fully alongside Car 48.
"The driver of Car 48 agreed with what the driver of Car 16 said and added that he barely felt the contact.Upon careful consideration of the circumstances, the Stewards find that no single party bears whole or predominant responsibility for the collision. Therefore, the Stewards decide to reverse the Decision 12.
"As a result the penalty (i.e. 5 second time penalty + 1 penalty point) on Car 16 is removed and the Stewards determine that no further action will be taken in relation to this collision."
