Ferrari F1 errors are 'crystal clear'

Ferrari Head of Chassis Enrico Cardile has conceded the weaknesses of its F1 challenger this year are "crystal clear".

The Scuderia's hopes of a title bid this season have not materialised with the SF-23 not proving as fast as last year's machinery, with Charles Leclerc earning three podiums from 12 races and Carlos Sainz failing to breach the top three.

The car suffers from poor race pace and tyre degradation, with a particular sensitivity to wind conditions, while high-speed tracks have also been a weakness for the package.

Ferrari abandoned its scalloped sidepod concept for a Red Bull-esque design as a number teams look to converge on the RB19 concept.

Ferrari's 2023 mistakes

Addressing the deficit between Red Bull and the Maranello-based outfit, Cardile told media including RacingNews365: "For us, it is crystal clear what we did wrong with the car.

"What the weaknesses are is clear, it is not a matter of understanding [what the problems are], but what we should do now for the future is a matter of delivering a good product which will cope with the targets we have set.

"We know what we have to do, it is a matter of doing, of finding the right contents, the right architecture of the car to achieve the targets.

"The other point is that the car is consistent during a race weekend in terms of behaviour, and at times, this behaviour changes from track to track.

"In Hungary, we had a difficult time, but in Belgium, the performance was back but during the weekend, the car performance is consistent.

"[At Zandvoort], we dedicated FP1 to specific tests to better operate the car this year and to gather data to improve the behaviour of the car next year."
