Ferrari concede Red Bull floor 'impossible to copy'

Red Bull's floor was exposed by Sergio Perez's Monaco practice crash, but taking its philosophy is easier said than done.

Ferrari Team Principal Frederic Vasseur has insisted it is "impossible" to copy Red Bull's newly-revealed floor in a bid to close the gap to the Formula 1 championship leaders. Sergio Perez's crash during Monaco Grand Prix practice forced circuit marshals to crane the RB19 away from the scene of the accident, providing a first glimpse at the intricate floor work that has played largely towards the Milton Keynes-based outfit's dominance so far this season. But despite collating a number of photographs of the component, Vasseur has explained that implementing some of Red Bull's solutions would not easy. "I think that we all have a lot of pictures of the other cars," Vasseur told media, including RacingNews365. "But then it's quite difficult or even impossible to try to copy something because it's more a global concept and you can't copy just one part of the car."

Red Bull praised

Vasseur's McLaren counterpart Andrea Stella has applauded Red Bull for its innovation and believes a look at the floor underlines why it is the team to beat, having secured victory in all six races this term. "I personally spent some time [looking at the floor], but the 100 aerodynamicists at McLaren will be spending a little bit more time," said Stella. "It's very interesting indeed and also shows the complexity and the quality of their development. So to be honest, when I saw it, I said hats off to Red Bull, I can understand why they have this kind of performance."
