Ferrari changed 'everything' on Leclerc's car after Silverstone trouble

Problems forced Charles Leclerc to miss FP2 at Silverstone, with Ferrari determined for a repeat not to strike during Saturday or Sunday.

Charles Leclerc says Ferrari have changed "everything wrong" with his SF-23 machine after problems caused him to miss an entire Formula 1 practice session for the British Grand Prix. After posting an encouraging time in the opening session at Silverstone, Leclerc did not venture out on track in the afternoon session as an electrical problem stymied Ferrari's hopes of making it out. The team did attempt to fix the issue, but eventually conceded defeat, although in good news for the Scuderia, Carlos Sainz did finish just 0.022s behind FP2 pace-setter Max Verstappen in the sister Ferrari. And the Monegasque has revealed the lengths Ferrari have gone to to avoid a repeat issue striking.

Leclerc's problems

"There was a small problem on the car, I think the team has identified what went wrong," he explained to media. "We’ve changed basically everything that was wrong on the car and it should be should be fine for [Qualifying]. "It was an electrical issue, so it shouldn’t have any influence on our weekend apart from obviously the lack of kilometres and laps in FP2. "That’s a bit unfortunate, because that’s normally where we prepare for the race and Sunday seems to be dry, so we’ll go a little bit into the unknown there. "It should be very different with rain around [for Qualifying]. "I'm looking forward to the changing conditions, I've struggled a bit with that, but I've been working on it a lot, and am confident it will be better."
