F1 championship leader Kimi Antonelli has backed Ferrari to make a step forward through the Additional Development and Update Opportunities (ADUO) system this year.
Manufacturers who are deemed to be behind the competition are set to be handed aid to catch up to the benchmark.
RacingNews365 understands Ferrari will receive help as it bids to make a step forward and offer a challenge to Mercedes, which has won the opening three rounds of the year.
Two of those victories have gone the way of Antonelli - but the Italian is wary of the Maranello-based squad's potential to gain from ADUO.
“I know there will be major changes,” the 19-year-old told Sky Sport Italy.
“For example, the ADUO that has been granted to Ferrari, which will allow them to develop the engine, they will definitely get much closer because their car is already strong.
“If they manage to improve the engine as well, they’ll close the gap even more.”
However, Antonelli insisted he is remaining focused on his own objectives as he looks to continue his strong run of form.
“But I’m not too worried,” he said.
“In the end, once I get on track, I’ll focus on doing what I’ve done in the past race weekends: trying to be as fast as possible, focusing on myself and on what I have to do.
“I’m also sure that we will bring some important updates.
“The car is already strong and there’s a great dynamic within the team. So I’m not too worried, but I’m aware that the other teams will catch up sooner or later.”
