Fernando Alonso has teased "more surprises" could emerge in the next few weeks around his plans to compete in motorsport outside of F1.
The Aston Martin driver agreed this week to extend his stay in grand prix racing into a 24th season in 2027, where he will turn 46 years old - becoming the first driver of that age to compete in a grand prix since Maurice Trintignant at the 1964 French GP.
During his spell with McLaren-Honda between 2015 and 2018, Alonso became so dissatisfied with the performance, that in 2018, he became the first active F1 driver in over 20 years to compete at, and win, the Le Mans 24 Hours, with Toyota.
He followed that up with another Le Mans win in 2019, also claiming the WEC title, and also competed in the 2017 and 2020 Indianapolis 500s as he chased the unofficial 'Triple Crown of Motorsport.'
Alonso has signalled a potential interest in returning to Le Mans in the future, potentially with Aston Martin's Hypercar programme - but nothing has been confirmed, as the veteran spoke of his admiration for when F1 drivers used to compete in multiple series outside of grand prix racing - and teased potential news to come, whilst keeping his cards close to his chest.
"I love challenges, and I have said a few times, my way of understanding motorsport and my way of living in general is around racing cars, and has been all my life," Alonso told media, including RacingNews365.
"My strength has been to adapt to different cars, different rules: the V10, the V8, the V6, Bridgestone. Michelin, Pirelli tyres, hybrid systems, ground effects and all these kinds of things.
"Plus different series, prototypes, the Dakar, and I try to use that strength and probably try to do things from the past, maybe in the 1960s, 1980s, 1990s that were possible, and now, I think no one will try to attempt to do a few things.
"Max is the only one trying to do some GT racing, but a part of that, I think, is the challenge I tried in the past, and I will keep trying because maybe you will have some more surprises in the next few weeks.
"There are things that people probably think are impossible, but I want to find the limits of what is possible."
