Fernando Alonso has explained it will be a straightforward task to keep informed of the F1 drivers' championship fight during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, due to there being "plenty of screens" at the Yas Marina Circuit.

The Aston Martin driver starts the season finale sixth on the grid, and will be primarily focused on helping ensure the Silverstone-based squad retains the seventh place in the constructors' standings it currently holds.

On 80 points, the team is seven clear of Haas and 12 ahead of Stake. Racing Bulls, in sixth, is 12 ahead and still within striking distance.

However, with strong cars ahead of the Spaniard, that will be a tall order, especially with team-mate Lance Stroll only P15 on the grid.

"Obviously, our race is with Haas and Sauber [Stake] for the constructors' championship," Alonso told media, including RacingNews365, when it was put to him that Max Verstappen potentially backing up the pack could produce opportunities.

"There is no other incentive for us, and we will try to control that," the two-time F1 drivers' champion — who has a Stake, a Haas, and a Racing Bulls car lining up behind him — added.

However, when asked how much he would be staring at the big screens situated around the track to see what is happening out front during the 58-lap race, he promptly replied: "A lot. A lot, because it's also a very easy circuit.

"Turn 3, you have a screen that's in the middle of your view. Turn 5, you have a screen on the inside, Turn 7 on the outside, Turn 9, there are two — one on entry, one on exit," he said humorously.

"So, plenty of screens. It's going to be a fantastic show for us."

Nonetheless, the 32-time grand prix winner wants no part of the action at the sharp end, wanting to steer well clear of fight — and the potential for controversy.

"I hope to be as far as possible from the fight," he concluded, before adding: "Well, not too far, because I want to be in the points, but not in the news on Monday."
