Fernando Alonso has outlined Aston Martin's frustration with the 2025 F1 season, insisting the outfit is "not happy" with its performance.
Aston Martin enters this weekend's Qatar Grand Prix eighth in the constructors' standings, but just a single point behind Haas in seventh, and 18 points behind Racing Bulls in sixth.
Beating Racing Bulls to sixth is the best Aston Martin can hope for in the championship, due to Williams having a comfortable margin in fifth.
It has been a year of disappointment for the Silverstone-based squad, who have dealt with a package which has varied wildly in competitiveness.
The highest point for Alonso this season was finishing fifth in Hungary, while the lowest was going the first eight rounds without scoring a point.
If Aston Martin end the year seventh in the standings, it will represent its joint-worst result since 2022. As for Alonso, he is currently set for his worst points total since 2018 at McLaren.
The source of Aston Martin's struggles actually dates back to its underperforming 2024 car, which worked as a baseline for this year's AMR25 to allow a greater focus on the new regulations for 2026.
"Obviously, it has been a very different season compared to the past, as the 2026 regulations are a big change for everybody. And 2025 was, yeah, a season in the middle of nowhere," Alonso told media, including RacingNews365.
"And, you know, we couldn't probably put the job into the 2025 car we wanted. And the base car of 2024 was not maybe the best.
"The second part of 2024 was not really competitive, and that was unfortunately the base for 2025. And then, as I said, with 2026 being a lot of focus for everybody, we were struggling to find the path this season.
"So, yeah, it has been challenging for Aston for sure, and we are not happy with the season. But, yeah, it was a complicated scenario, I think."
