Fernando Alonso believes F1's ongoing debate around track limits at the start of grands prix could be fixed - but only if he commits the offence.

In Mexico, a number of drivers, including Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, simply cut Turn 1, missed Turn 2 completely before rejoining at Turn 3, having gained a number of positions.

Some drivers, including Racing Bulls' Liam Lawson - who was eliminated in the Mexico chaos after being rammed by Carlos Sainz, opting to cut the corner - believe F1 should simply revert to gravel in run-off areas to prevent drivers cutting corners at the start of grands prix.

It is something Alonso has long called for, including back to the Russian Grand Prix at Sochi, where the tarmac run-off area provided an easy escape route - one Alonso exploited back in 2021, as he explained his solution to ending the ongoing debate.

When asked what a proposed solution to the problem could be, Alonso wrly told media, including RacingNews365: "Do it myself.

"When I do it myself, I tried many times in Sochi to raise the point: 'Why don't we do the corner in Sochi, but do it in Baku or in Monaco, at Sainte Devote, the first corner, there is never any problem.

"We all go through [Turn 1] in Sochi, where there is a wall, and then everyone was cutting, and then one year, I just didn't break for Turn 1.

"I was then P3 at the exit of the corner, and for the following year, it was not allowed.

"So it will be [banned] for 2027, I guess, because if I do it in '26, they will only change Mexico for '27."
