Fernando Alonso has offered an insight into what the future could hold once he eventually brings his F1 driving career to an end.
The two-time world champion is currently weighing up his options for 2027 amid Aston Martin’s difficult start to the season, which has left the Silverstone-based squad towards the rear of the field.
Alonso has revealed he plans to use the summer break to make a decision on his future.
However, the Spaniard insisted that even if he chooses to retire from F1, it will not mark the end of his involvement in motorsport.
“I definitely have some challenges ahead, most of them are motorsport-related,” Alonso told media including RacingNews365.
“I want to win Dakar. I said many times I may want to win different things or challenge myself in endurance racing again, especially if Max [Verstappen] wants to do it one day as well.”
Alonso joined Aston Martin in 2023 and stated in his early days with the team that he expected his association with the team would extend beyond his days as an F1 driver.
It's a stance that has remained unchanged, according to the 44-year-old.
“When I stop racing, I said I would like to continue with this team in a different role, try to help,” he said.
“I’ve been in Formula 1 for 26 years now, and I think I can help the team. Probably I’m the second or third most experienced guy in the team.
“I think there are things that can be useful for the team, and I prefer to use my expertise than being at home watching TV.”
