Fernando Alonso has voiced his frustration at Aston Martin's current F1 situation, as he listed a number of "fundamental" problems with the car.
The AMR26 has been plagued by unreliability and a lack of performance in the opening races of the season, but the team was hoping that the unique nature of the Monte Carlo track could aid Alonso and Lance Stroll - but the car has been rooted to the bottom of the time-sheets.
Alonso did manage to take P20 in both Friday practice sessions before slipping to P21 on Saturday, as he out-qualified Stroll by 0.712s.
On Thursday, Alonso claimed that the team "could not race" in Monaco with the gearbox issues affecting the car, as the two-time champion detailed exactly where the car is struggling and why set-up fixes cannot rectify the problems.
"There was no big difference compared [to Friday]; we changed the set-up a lot, but it is not a problem with the set-up; there are more fundamental problems on the car than just changing one ride height or one front or rear [anti-roll] bar," Alonso reflected to media, including RacingNews365.
"We had hopes here in Monaco because it is a different circuit, but in FP1, we saw that we are slow here as well, and it is quite repetitve, and actually annoying that every weekend we say until the summer, we have no updates to the track and we are at the back of the grid, but we want to try to be as fast as possible every weekend.
"I try to put good laps in, which I did in Monaco with the car I have.
There is only one car the same, and we try to push each other, but there is no other competition than that.
"The downshifts are very difficult, upshifts as well. We lose gear-sync when we are slow in a corner, and we are missing front-grip, and the front axle is not really working here.
"It is not biting, and in Monaco, if you don't have a strong front, you cannot drive the car and be precise and close to the walls.
"So we are not confident enough in the car."
