Fernando Alonso is exploring a potential sensational return to the Alpine team, according to multiple reports.
The Spanish veteran left the Enstone squad ahead of the 2023 season to join Aston Martin, with any potential return being the fourth time he would have signed for the team, either in its Renault or Alpine guises, after 2003, 2009, and 2021.
Alonso's manager is Flavio Briatore, who returned as a Renault special advisor to help the under-performing Alpine team, which is now enjoying a resurgence in performance in 2026, aided by a switch to a customer Mercedes power unit.
The team has also managed to secure a Gucci title sponsorship from next season, with the team becoming an attractive option, including for Alonso, whose current Aston Martin deal expires at the end of the 2026 season.
Gasly scored the team's first podium in a dry grand prix since 2023 in Monaco after a Right of Review appeal was upheld and penalties rescinded.
The Frenchman last year signed a new contract until 2031, with Franco Colapinto on a one-year deal, but has seen an upturn in performances of late.
Alonso has hinted that he could retire from F1 by 2028 after suggesting the current Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix would be his last appearance at the venue - which is not due back on the calendar until 2028 as it enters a rotational agreement with the Belgian GP at Spa from 2027.
