Fernando Alonso criticises major F1 claim: 'It is bullshit'

Fernando Alonso believes a long-standing F1 belief is not as important as is made out in wet F1 races.

Fernando Alonso believes the idea that drivers can make the difference in wet grands prix to achieve better results is "bullshit." Alonso finished ninth in the British Grand Prix, a chaotic wet-dry-wet-dry event at Silverstone, where team-mate Lance Stroll challenged for a podium before falling away to finish in seventh place. It is often claimed that in such difficult races, the drivers can make the difference to achieve results better than their car is capable of.  However, Alonso, the most experienced driver in F1 history with 413 starts, believes such a claim is "bullshit." "I have the experience, but I don't have the data, so unless I have everything in the cockpit and can see the radar, the tyre temperatures, the graining, the lap-times of others, [I don't have all the information]," Alonso told media, including RacingNews365.  "There are many factors where they are aware, and when they call me to pit, I pit. I can feed back on the track conditions, but I cannot do much more than that. "Whoever says the driver makes these conditions and wins the races is speaking bullshit.  "This is a data-driven race with all the parameters we have in the car, and I think the first stop was difficult to read, I understand that."
