Felipe Drugovich secured an impressive maiden Formula E pole position for the second race of the Shanghai E-Prix double-header, mastering tricky conditions.
Qualifying start on a fully wet Shanghai International Circuit, before a dry line began to appear by the time the Brazilian defeated Taylor Barnard in the final.
Saturday's winner Pascal Wehrlein claimed third on the grid and has reigning world champion Oliver Rowland alongside him on the second row.
In a big blow for championship leader Mitch Evans, the Jaguar driver and team-mate Antonio Felix da Costa were both eliminated in the group stage. It leaves a tough race ahead. Fellow title contender Jake Dennis also dropped out early.
Duels
The final saw a crushing display by Drugovich who set a 1m 10.609 to claim a famous first Formula E pole, with Barnard losing four tenths alone in just the middle sector.
To reach the final, Drugovich first had to negotiate his way past Nissan's Norman Nato in the quarter finals.
It was a duel he won with ease, before a stunning lap saw him eliminate big favourite Wehrlein in the semi finals.
As for Barnard, he knocked out Pepe Marti in the quarter finals, with it having represented the Cupra Kiro driver's first duel appearance in Formula E.
This was followed by the Briton facing Rowland in the semi finals, a challenge he succeeded in to set up the final against Drugovich.
As for the other two quarter finals, Rowland beat Nico Müller, while Wehrlein defeated Edoardo Mortara.
Group stage
Qualifying ahead of the second race of the weekend took place in wet conditions, resulting in several surprises in both groups.
It was Porsche's Müller who topped the first group, ahead of Barnard, Marti and Rowland who had a difficult Saturday.
In a big surprise, both Evans and da Costa failed to make it into the duels, forced to settle for seventh and eighth in the group.
The shocks continued in the second group as another title contender had a difficult session, with Dennis only going sixth fastest.
At the top of the second group was Wehrlein, who was comfortably the quickest driver at 300 kW. He was joined in the top four by Nato, Drugovich and Mortara.
