The Belgian Grand Prix weekend is set to be hit with mixed conditions as rain threatens to impact the third sprint event of the season.
Renowned for its tricky, mixed conditions where it can be raining at one point of the circuit and dry at another, Spa-Francorchamps is set to play host to such conditions once again this weekend.
On Friday, July 26th, there is the sole practice session (11:30 BST) and sprint qualifying (15:30 BST), with rain cells set to be a feature throughout the day.
A cell will pass over the track early in the morning on Friday, but FP1 is expected to be dry, with sprint qualifying possibly subject to rain. The temperature will be around 22 degrees Celsius.
On Saturday, July 26th, the sprint and grand prix qualifying will take place, and this is forecast to be the only fully dry day of the grand prix weekend with a small chance of showers, but this picture drastically changes for the grand prix itself on July 27th.
The race is set for a 14:00 BST start time, with big rain cells passing to the north and east of the circuit at this time, having been building throughout the morning. Chances of a wet race are therefore extremely high.
Throughout Friday and Saturday, the wind will be blowing from the north-west, corresponding to a La Source head-wind and a tail-wind down the Kemmel Straight into the Les Combes chicane.
For Sunday, this changes to a westerly wind, creating a direct cross-wind from right-to-left at Eau Rouge/Radillion.
The last wet Belgian GP was in 2021, when the race was abandoned after just a single lap behind the safety car with half-points awarded for the first time since the 2009 Malaysian GP.
