F1 underline 'totally different picture' in Cadillac entry update

Stefano Domenicali, F1 CEO, has said the "picture is totally different" when it comes to Cadillac's plans to join the grid for the 2026 season.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has said there will be an "update to formalise" Cadillac's entry into the championship in the near future.

The General Motors-based projected is targeting the 2026 F1 season, when the series' power unit and aerodynamic regulations are being overhauled.

However, information on its progress has been quiet since F1 provisionally green-lighted the proposal with an agreement in principle in November.

Under the operation's previous Andretti guise, F1 rejected its plans despite FIA approval, before changing its stance ahead of last season's Las Vegas Grand Prix.

When asked about development in F1's position on the Cadillac project, Domenicali explained "it should not be too long" before the situation is given more clarity.

"We always said that Cadillac is giving and will give an incredible boost to the ecosystem of F1," the Italian said, as quoted by adamcooperf1.com. "We were referring to other situations that were handled before. But now the picture is totally different.

"Cadillac is preparing the entry, in terms of preparing the season, because it would not be an easy situation for them to be in such a high-tech and evolved sporting platform, they are doing everything in order to show how Cadillac is really evolving into the sport.

"Now there is the formality that is related to the process that it’s almost ready together with the FIA. There has to be an update.

"And whenever this will be ready, it should be not too long, there will be a sort of an update to formalise what basically is already happening."

Cadillac commitment to becoming F1 power unit OEM

When Cadillac first races in F1 next season, it will do so under Ferrari power, having struck a two-year arrangement with the Italian constructor and engine OEM (original equipment manufacturer).

But the American project is committed to running its own GM power units from 2028 onwards, something that shows how much it wants to "invest" into F1 according to Domenicali.

"They will be ready to fight against or together with the other teams for next year," the 59-year-old added.

"And that is the evolution that, as you know, GM has taken as a fact that they want to be a real constructor or a manufacturer that will invest in our sport, because they do believe in the technological platform that F1 can provide to their system.

"So very, very happy that now this is on-board moving forward and looking forward to see them on the track together with the other teams to fight for a great championship."
