Lando Norris has been backed by F1 fans to once again out-perform McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri in 2025.

Across their two seasons together, Norris has scored 579 points to Piastri's 389, and has double the amount of Piastri's two grand prix wins, although both only scored their first victories in the 2024 season.

Norris finished as runner-up to Max Verstappen in the 2024 drivers' standings with Piastri finishing fourth in the standings, as the two combined for the constructors' championship, McLaren's first since 1998.

As part of a pre-season series, RacingNews365 has asked its readers to vote in a series of polls, asking which team-mate from the 10 line-ups will score more points in the coming season.

In this, the final, result available below, Norris has been backed by almost six in 10 readers to finish ahead of Piastri for a third season.

Which McLaren F1 driver will score most points in 2025?

Driver Result
Lando Norris 58.60%
Oscar Piastri 41.40%

Analysis

Both Norris and Piastri have major weaknesses that they must address heading into the new season.

For Norris, it is his race starts and launches as he often lost the lead when starting from pole in 2024, although did put an end to the curse in Singapore and Abu Dhabi.

It is still something he needs to work on to eradicate from his game to be considered a real threat for the championship - which he enters as one of the title favourites.

As for Piastri, he must rectify his qualifying speed. There is not a great deal of work for the Australian to do as he is more often than not on the close, but has been shown to be lacking a few hundredths in the crunch moments which put him behind Norris on the grid.

Piastri lost 4-20 to Norris in qualifying across the 2024 season - a strike-rate that is simply not good enough at the top level.

McLaren should be in contention for the drivers' title heading into the new season as it enters with the constructors' trophy already at Woking.

There are question marks over Red Bull and where its RB21 will be following the difficulties with the RB20.

Whichever McLaren driver starts the season strongest could steal a march in the championship race - and given how closely matched Norris and Piastri are with their chinks outlined above, it will be a fascinating fight.
