F1 fans declare McLaren wrong to impose team orders

F1 fans have had their say over a contentious and divisive Hungarian GP talking point.

The major talking point from the Hungarian Grand Prix was McLaren's decision to impose team orders on its drivers.

Further still, the Woking outfit found itself in the middle of a difficult situation during the latter stages of the race at the Hungaroring, with Lando Norris seeming to initially resist calls to step aside and allow Oscar Piastri his maiden F1 victory.

Norris' race engineer Will Joseph could be heard pleading with the 24-year-old to let his team-mate back through - a call he eventually acquiesced with.

It took the shine off Piastri's first grand prix win and, to many, cast Norris in a poor light, too. In some ways, it was the worst of both worlds for the British driver.

Had he let the Australian through immediately, he could have then fought him on track, and, having put his cat amongst McLaren's pigeons for almost 20 laps, he could have opted to take victory and argue about it later - a sign of the ruthlessness fans and pundits have been begging to see from him.

That may have caused major repercussions for Norris internally at McLaren, but interestingly, he may well have had the court of public opinion in his corner.

In a recent RacingNews365 poll, over half of the 7365 respondents felt the team should not have interfered after the second round of pit stops. In fact, just 41.63% of voters agreed with the call.

If Norris could re-run events, would he make the same decision again? Proof may well be found in whether Max Verstappen beats him to the drivers' title by seven points or less.
