Carlos Sainz topped a close FP1 in Mexico, as home favourite Sergio Perez set the exact same time as Max Verstappen.

It is advantage Carlos Sainz and Ferrari after first practice for the 2022 Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix.

A 1:20.707s effort was good enough to secure P1, and pip teammate Charles Leclerc by 0.046s.

The Red Bull duo set the exact same time of 1:20.827s as Sergio Perez edged out Max Verstappen with Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso within two tenths.

Liam Lawson won the 'rookie' class although his AlphaTauri of Yuki Tsunoda ground to a halt, bringing an early end to the session.
