Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Sergio Perez (Red Bull) completed a competitive top six in FP3.
Alpine's Fernando Alonso finished best-of-the-rest in P7, ahead of surprise performances from Aston Martin's Sebastian Vettel and Haas' Mick Schumacher.
