Ex F1 driver thinks Ricciardo is good for two or three tenths

Former Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger thinks the arrival of Daniel Ricciardo is worth two or three-tenths a lap to McLaren.

Former Austrian Grand Prix driver Gerhard Berger thinks Daniel Ricciardo's arrival is worth two or three-tenths to the team. Amiable Australian Ricciardo had a productive start to his career with McLaren topping two of the three sessions he took part in during F1's pre-season test in Bahrain. The Australian is already proving to be a valuable asset to McLaren with former McLaren driver Berger offering a tangible value to Ricciardo's presence in the team. "McLaren gets interesting with Daniel Ricciardo," Berger told Kronen Zeitung. "He's good for two or three tenths, plus the Mercedes engine. It's not enough for the championship, but I see it in third place. "Then there will be a wide box of Aston Martin, Alpha Tauri, and Ferrari that can go along with you." Berger also said he sympathises with Ferrari's plight having raced for the team in two separate stints while offering some insight into the team's struggles "The sport and the fans need a strong Ferrari and as a former Ferrari driver, I would give them my heartfelt treat," Berger said. "If you make the wrong personnel or technology decisions in this business, you fall quickly. Then this dilemma usually lasts three to five years. I would like to be surprised by the opposite." The Austrian finally stated how important Fernando Alonso's return could be to the sport, labeling the Alpine driver as an "asset". "He is both sporty and politically an asset and will provide us with one or two delicacies, I trust him to do everything," Berger concluded.
