Oscar Piastri has signed a new F1 contract extension which was announced on the eve of the new season. Piastri is entering his third campaign with McLaren after joining the team as a rookie driver ahead of the 2023 campaign. The Australian's contract was due to expire at the end of the 2026 season but McLaren has squashed the potential for him to walk elsewhere by signing him up to a new long-term deal. It further cements McLaren's blockbuster driver line-up of Lando Norris and Piastri, which many label as the best on the grid. But the strength of the two drivers has been predicted by some to create headaches for McLaren down the road should they go head to head for a title. With that in mind, did McLaren make the right choice to extend Piastri - or should it have waited to explore other options?
