Nyck de Vries said it "hurts" to have his Formula 1 career end early after getting sacked by AlphaTauri midway through the season.

In a statement on his Instagram page the Dutchman thanked Red Bull and AlphaTauri for the opportunity, adding that he plans to take a break from social media.

This comes after De Vries manager dismissed a series of comments purporting to be from the Dutch driver, adding that the de Vries camp is considering legal action against those who posted the accusations.

Daniel Ricciardo will take his place for the remaining races for the year starting from this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix.
