Dan Ticktum secured a first-ever Formula E pole position in the season-ending London E-Prix; however, he will start from sixth due to a grid penalty.

The Briton defeated Nick Cassidy in the final at the London ExCeL Centre to secure the pole trophy and three championship points, but will not start from P1.

Ticktum starts from sixth following a five-place grid penalty, due to spinning Mitch Evans in Saturday's opening race of the weekend.

As a result of Ticktum's penalty, Cassidy will start from pole, with DS Penske's Maximilian Günther alongside him.

Duels

It was a disappointing display from Cassidy in the final against Ticktum, with the New Zealander having been over two-tenths adrift of the Cupra Kiro driver.

Ticktum posted a 1m 07.278, securing him a first-ever pole position trophy, despite losing the P1 start due to his grid penalty.

To reach the final, Cassidy first beat Edoardo Mortara in the quarter-finals after the Mahindra driver went off at the first corner.

He was then allowed to beat his team-mate in the semi-finals. Cassidy went very deep in the final sector, but Evans slowed to ensure Saturday's race winner progressed.

As for Ticktum, he defeated Stoffel Vandoorne and Maximilian Günther in the duels to reach the final against Cassidy, but starts from due to a five-place grid penalty.

In the other two quarter-finals, Evans went quicker than Nyck de Vries and Günther beat Pascal Wehrlein.

Group stage

Drama occurred mid-way through the opening group as Antonio Felix da Costa was forced to pull off the circuit, due to a damaged gearbox. It triggered a red flag with just under five minutes left.

Times tumbled once the session resumed, with a Mahindra one-two by the end of the group. Mortara topped Group A ahead of de Vries, with Evans and Cassidy securing third and fourth for Jaguar.

World champion Rowland had to settle for fifth, following a small mistake on his final lap. Da Costa was last following his issue.

The second group was significantly calmer, with Ticktum going quickest on a 1m 08.646. Günther, Wehrlein and Vandoorne joined the Briton in progressing to the duels.

It meant not a single Nissan-powered driver made the duels, hurting its chances in the manufacturers' championship.
