Damon Hill believes Ferrari has a straightforward way out of its Lewis Hamilton-Charles Leclerc mess: make the seven-time F1 champion the team's clear number one driver.
The debate around the Scuderia flared up again after the Mexico City Grand Prix, where Hamilton started from pole position but had to fight hard to keep Charles Leclerc behind him on the opening lap.
It went wrong at Turn 4, where both drivers ran off the track. Leclerc then took the lead by cutting across the circuit, leaving Hamilton to settle for third place behind Max Verstappen.
Leclerc was later handed a five-second penalty for the move, but Verstappen used the pit-stop window to seize the lead himself.
It meant Hamilton missed out on a win that had been within his grasp. He made clear afterwards that he wants rules put in place at Ferrari to stop such clashes happening again, bearing in mind what also happened at Monza and Zandvoort recently.
Hill, the 1996 F1 champion, feels Ferrari can put a stop to it.
Hill, via X, wrote: "Here is where I stand on the Lewis v Charles debate, and I made this point in my commentary on Sunday in Mexico.
"Make Lewis #1 Ferrari driver. Sort it out. Make it clear. Ends all debate. Lewis will deliver for Ferrari. If they back him 100%"
