A red flag was flown at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez just over four minutes into first practice, ahead of this weekend's Mexican Grand Prix.
A small piece of debris was spotted towards the end of the 1.2km start/finish straight; however, it was shattered after being hit by Kimi Antonelli.
Antonelli is one of five rookie drivers appearing in first practice, as part of the regulation for each team to run a rookie driver in two FP1 sessions across the season.
The red flag ate into crucial running time, with second practice being dedicated to testing Pirelli's three-softest compounds for next season. A green flag was flown with 49 minutes remaining.
It appears the piece of debris fell from Max Verstappen's floor, as Red Bull mechanics quickly got to work repairing visible damage to the underneath of the Dutchman's RB20.
