Crazy comparison for historic F1 pole: Chinese GP qualifying 2025 vs 2026

Kimi Antonelli's pole position at the Shanghai International Circuit in 2026 was a historic moment, but also showed the impact of the new technical regulations. The 19-year-old Italian recorded a 1:32.064 and thereby became the youngest pole sitter ever in Formula 1, a record that Sebastian Vettel had held since 2008. Compared to Oscar Piastri's pole from 2025, which set a new lap record with 1:30.641, Antonelli's time was more than one and a half seconds slower.
