Charles Leclerc eager to prove 'outstanding' Ferrari win was not a fluke

Charles Leclerc insists he is not focused on simply winning the Belgian Grand Prix, but wants to prove Ferrari's British performance was not a one-off.

The Scuderia expected to be behind Mercedes at Silverstone last time out, but Lewis Hamilton was able to steal Sprint pole from Kimi Antonelli and finish second to the Mercedes, whilst Leclerc himself qualified second for the grand prix and led 42 of the 52 laps as he claimed a first win since 2024.

It was aided by Antonelli suffering a wheel shield failure when hunting the Ferrari down in the closing laps, but Leclerc and Hamilton claimed a one-three to start talk of a realistic title fight from the Italian squad.

However, Leclerc has dampened talk of replicating the win at this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix, instead focusing in replicating the performance and understanding he showed in his car, having unlocked a huge step forward on Friday evening at Silverstone to combat long-standing balance issues he has been suffering with.

"Personally, I don't really focus on that. I think where I'll be focusing is just to try and get that feeling again in the car," Leclerc told media, including RacingNews365, when asked if he could fight for the win in Spa.

"If I have that feeling in the car, I'm confident that I will extract the maximum out of this car. If I don't, then it might be trickier.

"But then the overall result, of course, we are pushing extremely hard as a team in order to fight and challenge Mercedes. We were expecting a very difficult weekend at Silverstone. I think prior to the weekend, we were expecting even more of a difficult weekend in Spa.

"Considering we obviously won [at Silverstone], maybe we are a bit closer than what we initially thought. But it's still to be proven, and for that, we also need to understand why it was an outstandingly good weekend compared to our expectations.

"So, we'll focus on all that. But personally, I won't be focusing on just winning because that will be the wrong approach. I'll just focus on the process in order to get the best feeling and to maximise this car."
