Chaos in Imola as rain arrives

A heavy shower at the Emilia Romagna GP has caught everyone out with the drivers struggling on the way to the grid in Imola.

A heavy shower half an hour before the 2021 Emilia Romagna GP has sparked chaos in Imola. The teams and drivers expected a dry race but a passing showed has made the first half of the lap very wet. Fernando Alonso was the first victim of the rain, breaking his front wing at the turn seven hairpin. He managed to get back to the pitlane and is set to start the race with no issues. Both Aston Martin drivers' brakes caught fire with the team opting to replace the burnt material on Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll's brakes. The unusual conditions are set to cause a headache for the drivers with one half of the lap being wet and the other half being bone dry. There could be a situation where the drivers are starting on the wet or intermediate tyres on a dry starting grid. The rain continues to lightly fall in Imola with just minutes until lights out at 14:00 UK time.
