Cadillac fires 'signal of intent' warning with Valtteri Bottas-Sergio Perez signings

Cadillac believes a "signal of intent" has been fired after naming its two 2026 F1 drivers.

Cadillac boss Graeme Lowdon believes the signings of Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez is a "bold signal of intent" from F1's newest team.

After months of speculation over which two drivers would fill its line-up for 2026, Cadillac announced on Tuesday that F1 veterans Bottas and Perez were joining to spearhead General Motors' first attack on grand prix racing.

Between them, Bottas and Perez have 527 grand prix starts, 106 podiums, 10 wins and a lot of experience in the tight F1 midfield Cadillac hopes to compete in during its debut campaign.

The pair will be the third most experienced line-up in F1 history, with both Bottas and Perez able to beat former team-mates Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen from time to time whilst at Mercedes and Red Bull, respectively.

Addressing his new line-up, Lowdon declared the "intent" of a Bottas-Perez line-up.

"Signing two very experienced racers like Bottas and Checo is a bold signal of intent," Lowdon explained.

"They’ve seen it all and they know what it takes to succeed in Formula 1, but more importantly, they understand what it means to help build a team.

"Their leadership, feedback, race-hardened instincts and of course their speed will be invaluable as we bring this team to life.

"A big thank you to the team at Mercedes for their cooperation and understanding [in releasing Bottas]."

Dan Towriss makes 'bold' prediction

The Cadillac operation will be run across multiple sites, including Fishers in Indiana, and hubs in North Carolina and at Silverstone and was born from the Andretti bid which was rejected by F1 after commercial negotiations could not lead to an agreement.

After this, Dan Towriss came aboard as CEO of the team and of TWG Motorsports, the body responsible for runnning the team.

Offering his thoughts, Towriss felt that a "bold new chapter" was starting with Bottas and Perez.

"Bottas and Checo bring the perfect balance of talent, maturity, and drive," Towriss said.

"They’re not just accomplished racers, they’re builders, collaborators, and professionals who will help define what the Cadillac Formula 1 Team stands for.

"This moment marks more than just a lineup announcement. It’s the beginning of a bold new chapter in American motorsport."

General Motors president Mark Reuss also added that an "extraordinary legacy" was being created with the signings of Bottas and Perez.

"Our new drivers are a welcome addition to the Cadillac racing family— each brings a depth of experience, and an unwavering passion to win," he said.

"Together, we’re building the foundation for American motorsports that will be an extraordinary legacy for Cadillac, GM and the sport."
