Cadillac F1 team principal Graeme Lowdon has revealed that the outfit has chosen Ferrari to be its powertrain supplier due to having "trust" in the Italian manufacturer.

It was confirmed on Tuesday that Cadillac would become a Ferrari customer team, subjected to F1 and the FIA accepting and approving its entry onto the grid in 2026.

The American outfit is expected to join the grid when the new power unit regulations are introduced, with Ferrari to supply Cadillac with power units and gearboxes.

In doing so, Ferrari now has two customer teams for the new engine regulations, with Cadillac joining Haas as a customer of the Maranello-based outfit.

As outlined by Lowdon, choosing the right powertrain supplier for its debut is crucial for Cadillac, something it believes has been achieved with Ferrari.

"We are thrilled to partner with Ferrari as the power unit and gearbox supplier for our Cadillac team, bringing together two remarkable legacies," said Lowdon.

"Choosing the right power unit partner is crucial, and we trust in Ferrari’s passion, excellence and the exceptional capabilities of their people."

Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur is pleased to see a new American outfit commit itself to the pinnacle of motorsport, backed by automotive giant General Motors.

Because of this, Vasseur is delighted that Ferrari will supply Cadillac with engines and gearboxes.

"It’s great to see the commitment of another American team, backed by one of the most highly respected marques in the motor industry, at a time when Formula 1 is increasing in popularity in the United States," stated Vasseur.

"We are delighted therefore that we will be supplying the team with our power unit and gearbox as the basis of this technical collaboration.

"It means we will continue to have two 'customer teams' in the championship with all the benefits this brings in terms of technical development within Ferrari."
