The Baku City Circuit has played host to Formula 1 since 2016, with the initial running coming as the European Grand Prix. Since then it’s been run as the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, with its long main straight and tight and twisty corners known to serve up a surprise or two. Drivers have to navigate Baku’s medieval city walls with the slightest mistake likely resulting in a DNF.

Mercedes have won two of the three events to date, with Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo pulling off the upset at the 2017 race. The event was cancelled in 2020, but 2019 saw Valtteri Bottas turn his pole position into a race win ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel.
