The Australian Grand Prix is currently forecast to be hit by heavy rain showers as F1 builds up to the 2025 season-opener. As of 19:00 AEDT on Monday 10th March (08:00 UK) there is a 64% and rising chance of rain showers blowing through Melbourne and Albert Park at 15:00 AEDT on Sunday afternoon (04:00 UK) - the time the race is set to begin. There is currently a huge storm system in the Tasman Sea off the coast of Tasmania and New Zealand, the bulk of which will hit the southern island before another system moves in behind in, drawing wind and rain from the Southern Ocean, near Antartica. This will remain off the coast for most of the week before winds push it north-east towards Melbourne. Again, the main bulk of the system will hit New Zealand or pass over the ocean, but Melbourne is in the direct path of a trailing edge of the system, which will only hit on Sunday for the race, with practice and qualifying set to be dry. If the rain does hit the Albert Park circuit, it will come in from the south-west, meaning the final corners would be the first to be impacted if a shower pops up during the race, although race day morning itself is forecast to be extremely wet. RacingNews365 will be on hand with a full official forecast later in the week once the picture becomes ever clearer.
