Aston Martin 'respect' Fernando Alonso wait as major call looms

Aston Martin has stated it holds “respect” for Fernando Alonso's process over his decision for the 2027 season.

Alonso has not yet confirmed whether he will remain in a full-time F1 seat next year and detailed that he would use the summer break to think about the call.

However, no formal announcement has been made as the team continues to wait and see if the two-time champion will renew his commitment.

Aston Martin has endured a challenging F1 campaign thus far and has languished at the rear of the field with an uncompetitive car.

Despite its challenges, the Silverstone-based squad is confident it will continue its partnership with Alonso.

“We've always said that the focus is to continue with Fernando, chief trackside officer Mike Krack told media including RacingNews365.

“We are quite confident that we will reach a good outcome. 

“On the other hand, we have to respect also Fernando's quest to make his own decision, and we have to wait for that.”

Aston Martin's power unit supplier Honda has endured challenges of its own but is hopeful that its future is looking more prosperous following its own upgrade last time out in Zandvoort.

While Alonso has insisted the competitiveness of the car is not the primary factor in his decision, Honda detailed it is pushing to ensure it can field a strong engine for the 45-year-old.

“First, we have the development plan to improve our performance for the future, for 2027 and 2028,” Honda's chief F1 engineer Shintaro Orihara said.

“I'm not saying we're going to be a top competitor immediately in 2027, but we will bring some big steps. 

“We are trying to bring a big step to 2027. If we confirm our direction is correct on track, that will give us some confidence that our direction is correct.”
