Andretti Formula E perfection as Jake Dennis wins red-flagged Sanya return

Andretti secured a remarkable one-two in Formula E's Sanya E-Prix, with Jake Dennis claiming the win.

Jake Dennis secured a crucial victory in Formula E's Sanya E-Prix as the title fight was blow wide-open, due to Mitch Evans enduring an incident-filled race.

Formula E's first race in Sanya since 2019 was a demolition derby which saw Dennis start on pole from Andretti team-mate Felipe Drugovich.

The Briton led the opening stages before settling back into the pack, before he soared to the front late on with the help of his second attack mode after a red flag.

It marked Dennis' second win of the season after being victorious in the São Paulo opener back in December.

Drugovich got his elbows out to secure a famous Andretti one-two. Pepe Martí from 18th at the red flag restart completed the podium to make it two rookies on the rostrum.

The race was one of disaster for the top four in the championship. Evans' race was looking strong, until Dan Ticktum launched over the back of him at Turn 6 on lap 18. A lap later, and the New Zealander's race was effectively over.

Evans was touched from behind by Sébastien Buemi at the Turn 9 hairpin and locked wheels with Zane Maloney, causing several cars to stop and the red flag to be flown.

Unfortunately, his car could not be repaired quickly enough to rejoin the race at the back of the grid, instead resuming from the pit lane in a world of his own.

Despite Evans' painful race, his title lead suffered no damage, with Edoardo Mortara retiring, Oliver Rowland crashing out and Pascal Wehrlein finishing in 14th. Antonio Felix da Costa and DS Penske's Maximilian Günther completed the top five.
