Esteban Ocon will play no part in qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix following a crash during FP3 at the Miami International Autodrome.
The Frenchman made heavy contact with the wall during the practice session, forcing him to withdraw and robbing him of crucial running time.
Ocon walked away from the incident before being taken to the Medical Centre for precautionary checks.
But Alpine have since discovered a crack in his Alpine chassis, meaning his car is unable to compete in qualifying.
Alpine confirm chassis damage for Ocon
An update from the Alpine team ahead of qualifying confirmed: "Sadly, Esteban won't be taking part in qualifying this afternoon.
"His chassis was cracked in the impact with the barrier and cannot be changed in time."
Ocon is understood to be physically fine and has been passed fit to race in the Miami GP on Sunday.
