Alpine announce academy drivers for 2021

The team, which was formerly called Renault, will field five drivers across both the Formula 2 and Formula 3 grids for the upcoming year.

The Alpine Formula 1 have announced their academy drivers for 2021. This year's list of drivers will include a triumvirate of F2 incumbents, namely Christian Lundgaard, Oscar Piastri, and Guanyu Zhou. The team will also support Ciao Collet and Victor Martins, who are expected to represent the brand in FIA Formula 3. Piastri, who last year won the FIA Formula 3 championship will race for the Prema Powerteam in Formula 2. While Lundgaard and Zhou are yet to announce their plans for the 2021 season, it is widely expected that they will remain in Formula 2, alongside Piastri, racing for ART Grand Prix and UNI Virtuousi respectively. Alpine will be represented in FIA Formula 3 by one of their former academy drivers Victor Martins, who claimed the Formula Renault Eurocup title in 2020, and Brazilian Ciao Collet who finished runner up in the same series. "On paper, this year we have a very experienced line-up with seventeen victories and two championships shared between our drivers from their respective seasons last year," said Alpine Academy Director Mia Sharizman. "The drivers in the Academy know what is around the corner for them within our Formula 1 structure. The opportunity will come for those who perform the best.” Laurent Rossi, CEO of Alpine Cars echoed his sentiments. “We are proud to announce the Academy’s sixth ever driver line-up and its first as part of the Alpine Racing universe," said Rossi. "This year we are eager to watch our Academy prospects in both Formula 2 and Formula 3 continue to go from strength to strength as they represent the Alpine name.” The details of their lineup can be viewed on the Twitter post below.
