The Alpine F1 team has announced the surprise exit of team principal Oliver Oakes.

Oakes' departure from the squad comes just days after the Miami Grand Prix, the sixth round of the ongoing F1 campaign.

Oakes joined Alpine as team principal in August last year, taking over duties from Bruno Famin.

The 37-year-old, who was the youngest team boss on the grid, worked alongside executive advisor Flavio Briatore.

However, Oakes has opted to step down from his role with immediate effect.

“BWT Alpine Formula One Team announces that Oliver Oakes has resigned from his role as team principal,” read a statement from Alpine.

“The team has accepted his resignation with immediate effect.

“As of today, Flavio Briatore will continue as executive advisor and will also be covering the duties previously performed by Oliver Oakes.

“The team would like to thank Oliver for his efforts since he joined last summer and for his contribution in helping the team secure sixth place in the 2024 constructors’ championship.

“The team will not be making any further comment.”

Alpine has endured a difficult start to the 2025 season, scoring seven points across the opening six rounds to leave it ninth in the constructors' championship.

Most of the headlines surrounding the team this year have related to its driver line-up situation as speculation continues to mount over the future of rookie Jack Doohan.

RacingNews365 understands the team is poised to make a line-up change for the next round at Imola, calling up Franco Colapinto to partner Pierre Gasly.
