AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost does not share the same optimism as other leading figures in the Red Bull camp about Red Bull's chances of beating Mercedes this year. The 65-year-old has been the boss of Red Bull's sister F1 team since 2006 and he does not see any changes at the top of the pecking order as the teams prepare for the start of the 2021 Formula 1 season. "Let's not fool ourselves, Mercedes are the clear favourites," said Tost in an interview with F1 Insider. "They have a clear lead, especially in terms of the engine, however, in my view Honda is coming, so that shows that they are doing things right." The Austrian then voiced his opinions on AlphaTauri's chances for the upcoming season. Last year saw the team claim their second victory in F1 when Pierre Gasly took his maiden win at Monza, 12 years on from Sebastian Vettel's victory at the same track. Tost was happy with the year but wants to finish higher in the constructors' championship in 2021. "Last year we were pretty much everywhere fast and we even managed to win a race. The fact that we were only seventh in the final ranking shows how close it can be from third place. "With Gasly we have a driver who has already proved that he can win and with rookie Yuki Tsunoda an exciting young talent that we are going to hear a lot about, but that is not guarantees of success. However, we are in good place."
