Fernando Alonso believes the longevity of the 2021 Formula 1 calendar will be a strain on the drivers and teams. There are set to be 23 Grand Prix this year , a record for the most races in a single season including three triple-headers in the second half of the season. The Russian, Singapore and Japanese Grand Prix will take place in three consecutive weeks as will the US, Mexican and Brazilian events in October and November. Alonso is confident the gruelling schedule may catch some people out. "One of the challenges this season is the long calendar for this championship. Not only for me is it a challenge, but for the whole team and for everyone in the paddock," Alonso told DAZN. "We have to remember how many races it is and we try to save as much energy as possible during the season, even in the summer months from June to September. "Even if you feel fit and strong, because the more energy you save, the stronger you are going to be in November and December." The 2021 Formula 1 season begins next weekend with the Bahrain Grand Prix.
