Fernando Alonso is set to be summoned to the stewards at the F1 Spanish Grand Prix, after having made comments questioning the quality of F1's race direction. RacingNews365.com understands that the FIA Media Delegate has reported Alonso to the stewards, with the Spaniard accused of breaching articles 12.2.1 f) and 12.2.1 k) of the FIA’s International Sporting Code. Article 12.2.1 f) states that "any words, deeds or writings that have caused moral injury or loss to the FIA, its bodies, its members or its executive officers, and more generally on the interest of motorsport and values defended by the FIA" may be considered a breach of rules. Article 12.2.1 k) says a breach may also be considered if there is "any misconduct towards licence-holders, officials, officers of member of the staff of the FIA, members of the staff of the organiser or promoter, members of the staff of the competitors, doping control officials or any other person involved in a doping control."
Alonso questioning standard of race direction in 2022
Speaking before FP1 at Barcelona, Alonso said he had seen little improvement to the FIA's race direction process so far this season, following the governing body's raft of changes. Niels Wittich and Eduardo Freitas arrived for the 2022 season in a shared role after the FIA elected to remove Michael Masi from the position. However, Alonso questioned the performance of Wittich, who has been in command for the first five rounds of 2022, and was left frustrated over the second of his two five-second time penalties in Miami. "We saw a couple of things already that proves that we still need to improve a lot," Alonso told media, including RacingNews365.com , while also hitting out at the stewards for "incompetence".
