Fernando Alonso is puzzled by the "weird way" in which he lost control of his Aston Martin during Japanese Grand Prix practice, bringing out a red flag.
Moments after FP2 had resumed following Jack Doohan's 185mph smash into the Turn 1 barrier, Alonso spun out after turning into the first Degner, coming to rest in the gravel as the session was suspended for a second time.
High winds at Suzuka were a problem all day, but Alonso was still puzzled by the cause of the incident as he looks to kick-start his season after two retirements in Australia and China, making 2025 his worst start to a season since 2017, when it took until round eight for him to score any points.
"I need to review it, I lost the car in a weird way, it was very windy and very gusty out there, and the car is slightly critical," Alonso explained.
"I don't know if I put a tyre onto the grass, but I need to review it and try to avoid it [on Saturday].
"It is a fantastic circuit to drive, and [the track] is grippier and very smooth, there are no bumps at all through the first sector, which is the most interesting part of the circuit with the super high-speed corners.
"We are slightly more competitive than in China, so hopefully Q3 is possible."
