Albon feeling 'weird' in unique Williams scenario

Alex Albon is hoping to provide Williams teammate Logan Sargeant the "ultimate payback" with points in the Australian Grand Prix.

Following a crash in FP1 that damaged the chassis of his FW46, Albon looked set to spend the rest of the weekend on the sidelines with Williams confirming it had no spare tub present.

But the decision was made to switch Albon to Sargeant's car, leaving the American to watch FP3 and qualifying from the garage.

Thai-Briton Albon threatened to burst into Q3 but will line up 12th at Albert Park, alongside Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton on the sixth row of the grid and reacting to the situation he has found himself in, he told media including RacingNews365: "A weird feeling, if I am honest.

"It is one thing making a mistake and then having pressure to deliver a performance in qualifying but it's another feeling when you are given a responsibility... and I take that responsibility.

"It's not lost on me.

"It was tough but the only thing you can do is focus on your job and put it all behind you and treat the weekend like a normal weekend - obviously a session down.

"So far, we've done a good job to keep it going and the ultimate payback to Logan would be some points."

'A good result'

F1's midfield pack is as congested as ever, with small mistakes having big consequences over one lap.

On whether anything else could have been done to advance his position, Albon replied: "Half a tenth maybe.

"I felt my Q1 lap was very strong. I find that often, where the tyres are very soft, it is hard for me to go much quicker, if I go quickly through a corner I tend to overheat the tyres, so you kind of always go at the same speed, it is tricky after a good run to improve.

"But considering everything that has happened over the last few days, it's been a good result."
