Ahead of this weekend's Formula E season finale in London, Abt Cupra has confirmed that it will be parting ways with Nico Müller.
The Swiss driver is not leaving the championship but is instead looking set to move to a more competitive outfit. As revealed by The Race, Müller tested for Porsche earlier this season and is now being linked to its customer outfit Andretti to replace Norman Nato.
Since returning to the championship last year, Müller has often delivered exceptional performances in an underwhelming package, mostly due to Mahindra's disappointing Gen3 powertrain.
Abt Cupra themselves are parting ways with Mahindra after this weekend and will be powered by Lola for Gen3 EVO, who are completing a comeback to motorsport.
An emotional weekend is ahead of Müller, who has worked with Abt for several years in DTM prior to Formula E.
“This is going to be a very special weekend for me. On the one hand I’m looking forward to the location, the track and the fans," said Müller.
"On the other hand, I feel melancholy and a lot of gratitude after two years in this team. It was an extremely challenging time, but it also brought us closer together. We’ve always pulled together and I’m sure this is what we will be doing in London for the last time.
"We want to give it our all with the whole team, enjoy the days and try to get two good results. London is a cool track – very tight, with indoor and outdoor sections and walls, as we know from Formula E. I will give everything to make the team proud again one more time.”

Müller's choice
Müller leaving the Kempten-based outfit is not the team's choice, as pointed out by team principal Thomas Biermaier.
Of its 38 points this season, 36 have been scored by Müller. He has led the team tremendously, making him an understandable target for some of the leading teams.
“It was our wish to keep Nico in the team and to be successful with him again. Now we have to accept his decision and wish him all the best for the future," said Biermaier.
“On behalf of the whole team, I would like to thank Nico for his commitment and dedication. Of course we would all have liked to have seen more success, but even in these difficult times he has always led the way and shown strong performances.
"Nico remains part of the ABT family and is always welcome here.”
