The eighth round of the F1 season takes place from Monaco, arguably the most iconic venue on the sport's schedule.

The highly challenging Monaco circuit has danger at every corner as the close walls constantly threaten to end a driver's day of running.

Rain has featured at Monaco in the past, increasing the challenge the drivers are subject to.

But is more rain expected for the weekend ahead, as McLaren seeks to end its 17-year win drought at the principality?

Temperatures for the weekend ahead are expected to linger in the low 20s when the important sessions are underway.

On Friday, the first two practice sessions take place and it is on the opening day of action when rainfall is most likely to hit.

In the mountains a few dozen kilometres north of Monaco, rain and thunderstorms will develop. While FP1 is expected to be dry, there is a greater chance of a heavy thunderstorm impacting the second practice session.

There is also a chance of rain on Saturday, however as it stands, the odds of it falling remain low, meaning it will likely be a dry qualifying session.

On Sunday, the chance of showers at the circuit is even smaller again, meaning the afternoon - and the all-important grand prix - will take place in dry, sunny conditions.

With an afternoon temperature of around 22°C and a moderate wind, the elements will not cause difficulties for the drivers on race day.
