Championship leader Oscar Piastri topped the only practice session ahead of this weekend's Miami Grand Prix, which faced a disrupted ending.
A crash for Haas' Oliver Bearman saw the drivers lose the final four minutes of running ahead of the sprint shootout, leaving Piastri on top.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc secured second in practice, with new father Max Verstappen in third. Williams' Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon completed the top five.
It was a mixed top 10 due to several drivers having not completed a soft tyre run, including George Russell, Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris.
