Lewis Hamilton got his British Grand Prix weekend off on the right foot by topping the timing board during the first free practice session at Silverstone.
The Ferrari driver set a lap time of 1:26.892 in front of the adoring home fans, going 23 milliseconds clear of the McLaren of compatriot Lando Norris.
Oscar Piastri in the second MCL39 closed out the top three, with Charles Leclerc and George Russell rounding out the top five.
It was a quiet session, with the most notable action coming from Pierre Gasly, who pulled off a perfect pirouette on the exit of Copse before Gabriel Bortoleto upped the ante with a 720-degree spin.
Arvid Lindblad and Paul Aron, competing in their first F1 FP1 outings, finished the session in P14 and P17, respectively.
